OPSM: Diabetes and Eye Health

Diabetes is the leading cause of preventable blindness in Australia. Around 1.7 million Australians have diabetes with an estimated half a million undiagnosed.

Despite this, many of us are still unaware of the link between diabetes and eye health. That is why OPSM is encouraging Australians to have their eyes tested.

Diabetes may cause diabetic retinopathy, a condition that occurs when high blood sugar damages the fine blood vessels of the eye which may lead to, bleeding, swelling and inflammation. Untreated, it can cause vision loss or even blindness.

Symptoms may not be noticeable at first as vision loss tends to occur when the disease is advanced. Hence it is important to have your eyes tested regularly even if you do not experience any symptoms.

At OPSM, our Ultra-Wide Retinal Scanners capture 80% of your retina, so we can detect and monitor diabetic retinopathy. With early detection, we can start treatment and slow the onset of symptoms. To encourage further people to have their eyes checked for this debilitating disease, OPSM is offering 50% off Ultra Wide Digital Retinal Scans^
